ROLE PROFILE SUMMARY:
The Wean to Finish Herdsperson is a position specializing in the daily pork production activities within a grow/finish department. This position involves working in an agricultural environment with continuous hands-on interaction with livestock and regular structured routines. Some maintenance is also a responsibility of this position, including minor electrical repair work, carpentry and routine vehicle maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive, sort and care for wean to market hogs
- Assist in sorting by size, vaccinating and injections
- Maintain a healthy and safe animal environment
- Maintain and monitor overall animal health, care and treatment
- Perform animal feeding and nutrition management
- Perform general facility cleaning, maintenance and hygiene
- Maintain and conduct production record-keeping
- Assist Veterinarian with required duties primary to pig care.
- Assist with loading and unloading pigs
- Uphold Biosecurity standards and maintain safety standards.
- Properly document all transactions as applicable.
- May need to assist at other sites.
- Perform light maintenance on barns, equipment, feeders, etc.
- Perform regular vehicle maintenance
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSAND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to do basic math – addition, subtraction, and multiplication

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Regular, consistent attendance
- Requires problem-solving skills
- Requires dedication, goal-oriented, motivation, positive attitude and ability to work effectively as a team, but just as effectively independently

- Must be highly responsible and able to complete tasks efficiently and without prompting
- Must be able to prioritize workload and tasks in order of importance and urgency
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
- Swine industry experience preferred, but not required. Training will be provided
- Some electrical and mechanical experience and/or aptitude required
Respect and care for all animals is required.The ideal candidate must also possess experience in creating a culture of respect and care for all animals throughout the farm system. Knowledge and enforcement of the latest industry biosecurity best practices must be observed and enforced throughout the farm operation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work in noise levels that may require hearing protection
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch for extended periods of time on varied surfaces
- Ability to reach with hands and arms, perform repetitive motions, climb over 4-foot gates
- Ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation or assistance from another team member.
- Must be capable of being on their feet for 10 hours
- Must possess ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm
- Must possess good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp
